NSSF Rimfire Challenge


TCSA is offering a Rimfire sporting event called National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) Rimfire Challenge. This event is a timed event shooting at large steel plates with both a 22 pistol and a .22 rifle. The sport is intended to create a fun environment for novice and experienced shooters alike. These events are usually held in one of the Pistol Pits.


Both a .22 pistol and a .22 rifle are required.


Second Saturday April thru October
Registration starts at 8:00 AM shooting starts at 9:00 AM

Courses of fire:

  • There will be five stages shot. Each stage may consist of up to 5 strings of rifle and 5 strings of pistol fire.
  • It is recommended that the shooter have multiple magazines for each gun used.
  • There may be rifle only or pistol only stages.
  • You will usually need at least 180 rounds and conceivably 250 rounds. Be prepared.
  • Targets will be steel plates, clay birds or similar targets. Targets are either hit or missed.
  • Targets will be between 21&50 feet. If using a scope, check that it will focus this close.
  • This is a timed event. Score is best time with penalties for missed targets.
  • NY State law prohibits magazines of greater than 10 rounds. Shooters must comply.
  • .22 LR only. No .17 or .22 WRM .
  • Any brand of weapon is fine.
  • Shooters may enter more than one category with appropriate weapons.
  • This is a fun shoot. There will be no prizes awarded.

Classes: 5
  • Open: any sights. Autoloaders & others in separate classes
  • Limited: Iron or fiber sights. No magnification or electronic sights. Autoloaders & others in separate classes.
  • Cowboy/Cowgirl: Iron sights, lever or pump rifle, 2 single action revolvers. Costume not required.
  • All pistols must be bagged or cased. Rifles may be bagged, cased or on a guncart with actions open and FLAGGED except at the firing line or in the “Safe Handling Area”.
  • No live ammo is allowed in the “Safe Handling Area”..
  • A shot over the berm is a match disqualification.
  • All shooters must wear eye and ear protection
  • All shooters must comply with the range officer’s instructions. Failure to do so will result in a match disqualification.
  • Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. No one under 12 may participate

  • $10.00 non TCSA members spouse or significant other 1/2 price
  • $8.00 TCSA members spouse or significant other 1/2 price
  • $4.00 second shooting category Limit 2
  • $4.00 Family members under 18 accompanied with shooting adult
  • $5.00 young adult accompanied by a non-shooting adult.
